Luxury full-day journey from Cusco via Sacred Valley...
This hike will leave you with wonderful memories of starry nights and clear skies. Spend a few days surrounded by the pure magic of the community of the Andes and the Lares Valley, a unique and spectacular cultural experience combined with nature.
DAY 1: CUSCO – LARES – CUNCANI (L/D)
Early in the morning, our guide will pick you up from your hotel within the historic center and head to the Sacred Valley. At the Calca market we will make our last stop before diving into the mountains, you will have the opportunity to buy anything last minute that you may need for the hike. The road that leads to Lares crosses the Amparaes pass at 4,470 m, where the mountain view is impressive. The final destination is the natural and relaxing thermal baths in Lares, the thermal water will help us prepare for the hike. After climbing for a few hours, we will stop for lunch, then we will continue our first day of adventure, towards the Cuncani community, where the first camp awaits us.
DAY 2: CUNCANI – PUMAHUANCA PASS – PACCHA. (B/L/D)
If the day is clear, you can enjoy the view of Colque Cruz, a mountain topped by a glacier that provides water to the community. The hike is uphill on rocky trails that pass through high altitude lagoons. As you approach the pass, the trail becomes steeper and rockier.
Once you have reached the summit, the Pampa de Anta will surprise you. The descent is steep but beautiful, crossing a small forest of "Polylepis", the endemic and endangered trees of the high Andes, until reaching the camp. It is a quiet area surrounded by trees and with a small river.
DAY 3: PACCHA – TROUT FARM – OLLANTAYTAMBO. (B/L/D)
We will have breakfast, to start our last day on the walk, it is time for a group photo with the porters and field staff. From here, the walk to the piscigranja (fish farm) will be easier.
After a few hours we will meet the private transportation that will take us to the train station in Ollantaytambo to board our Expedition train to Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu Town. Hotel staff will be waiting for you at the train station to help you with the duffel bags and escort you to the hotel. After a warm shower we will have a delicious dinner.
DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO.
Wake up early to enjoy the expected day, visit one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, “Machu Picchu”, it is a 25-minute bus ride to the entrance gate to the sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The guided tour will have an average duration of 2 and a half hours. Afterwards, you will still have some time to explore the site.
If you fancy an uphill challenge, you have the option of climbing the infamous mountain of Huayna Picchu, it is important to mention that to climb that mountain you need to obtain a special permit, so it is important to check availability beforehand, in order to, in this way, confirm the climb when making your reservation. The trail consists of many narrow and steep steps (not recommended for people who suffer from vertigo), the height of the mountain is 2700 m / 8858 ft (the climb is 300 m.)
After visiting Machu Picchu, you will take the bus to Aguas Calientes, have time to have lunch and then board the train to return to Ollantaytambo, where our transportation will be waiting to take you back to the historic center of Cusco
