START

DAY 1: CUSCO - MOLLEPATA - CHALLACANCHA- SORAYPAMPA

We will start the trip early in the morning from your hotel and drive approximately 2-3 hours to Mollepata, where we will make a brief stop to use the bathrooms and do some last-minute shopping. We will then head towards the trailhead where we will begin the Salkantay hike. We should start our hike around 9:30 am. We will walk around 9 km to Soraypampa where we will have lunch and which is also our camp. We will have time after lunch to rest shortly before walking to Humantay Lake, approximately a 3 hour drive. It is a difficult hike as we will be at an altitude of around 4200 meters, but the view of this glacier-fed lake is worth it! Tonight will be the coldest night on the trail, so you'll want to wear some layers to stay warm!

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA - SALKANTAY PASS – CHAULLAY

We will wake up early for what will probably be the most difficult day of your trip to Salkantay! After an early breakfast, we will hike to the Salkantay Pass, at 4650 meters in approximately 3 hours. After a walk of approximately 2 hours, we will arrive at Huayracmachay where we will have lunch and rest shortly. After lunch we will walk another 3 hours through warmer climates to Chaullay which is about 2900 meters. Where our campsite will be established.

DAY 3: CHAULLAY - LA PLAYA - AGUAS CALIENTES

We will begin our walk from Chaullay to La Playa around 6:00 am. We will walk through warmer climates for approximately 6 hours, enjoying the green vegetation, when we arrive at La Playa, we will have lunch and rest before taking local transportation to Hidroeléctrica. From Hidroelectrica, we will walk along the tracks, approximately 3 hours before reaching Aguas Calientes. We will spend the night in a hotel, before your trip to Machu Picchu the next day!

DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO

Leaving at 6 am, you can walk to Machu Picchu or take the bus. We will have a 2-hour guided tour, then you will have time to wander around on your own until it is time to return to Aguas Calientes to take our train. If you are interested in climbing Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, you will need to book this well in advance as there are limited places, and it is mandatory to pay for permits. From Aguas Calientes, you will take the Expedition train to Ollantaytambo, where we will pick you up and take you back to your hotel in the historic center of Cusco.
