START

DAY 1: CUSCO - CACHORA SANTA ROSA L/d

The first day begins with pickup from your hotel in the historic center of Cusco to the town of Cachora, 4 hours away. Leaving Cachora, the road descends towards the Apurímac Valley.

Fantastic views of snow-capped peaks in the distance with the Apurimac Valley spread out before us all day. After a few hours of walking, we will have the first views of Choquequirao.

The overnight camp is in Santa Rosa (2200 m / 7215 ft), which is on the other side of the Apurímac River. As the campsite is a little further away than most groups, it is one of the quietest places to camp throughout the entire hike, so we can enjoy the beautiful scenery around us without distractions.

DAY 2: SANTA ROSA – CHOQUEQUIRAO:  B/L/D

It is probably the most difficult day of the hike. To get to Choquequirao, we must return along the opposite side of the Apurímac Valley, which involves ascending about 800 m / 2624 feet. over a distance of 14 km / 8.7 miles through hot and humid conditions. It is quite difficult, but the view to mix with the great variety of flora and fauna is worth it.

Throughout the day you will see a variety of bromeliads, orchids and bamboo stems. Let's hope to see birds like quetzals, toucans and a variety of hummingbirds. After approximately 5 hours of hiking, you will arrive at the camp near Choquequirao (3050 m / 10,005 ft) and settle in for the night. If the weather is clear, the sunset views from here are incredible and we may be lucky enough to see Condors flying over the valley below.

DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO – CHIQUISKA B/L/D

Today's focus is to explore Choquequirao, get up early, you will begin a guided tour to see the most important and interesting sections of the city.

Learn about the Inca culture and the close relationship between Choquequirao and Machu Picchu.

Compared to Machu Picchu, little is known about Choquequirao even though it has been known for much longer. Originally discovered in the 17th century by the Spanish, it was abandoned and forgotten until recent years. Only 25% of the city has been explored and many of its secrets are still waiting to be discovered.

After the tour, we will begin the walk back to Cachora along the route we came from. Camp for this night is Chiquiska (1800 m / 5905 ft) at the base of the valley next to the Apurímac River.

DAY 4: CHIQUISKA - CACHORA – CUSCO (B)

Today, is the final leg of the hike as we return to Cachora, returning down the valley side, we will have our final views of Choquequirao in the distance before arriving in Cachora in the late afternoon and traveling by bus back to Cusco.
