Luxury full-day journey from Cusco via Sacred Valley...
The Inca Jungle Trek to Machu Picchu (Inka Jungle Trek) is the best option for those who prefer a more adventurous and adrenaline-filled way to walk to Machu Picchu. This trail is considered an alternative hike to Machu Picchu and combines hiking with mountain biking, rafting and zip lining. Additionally, part of the trail leads through the last authentic Inca trail discovered, called Qhapaq Ñan. Along the way, you can admire beautiful mountains and subtropical areas of a cloud forest. One of the highlights of the hike is visiting the amazing, hot thermal baths, where you can cool off.
DAY 1: CUSCO - SANTA MARIA – YANAY MANDOR - BIKE
Early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to transfer you by vehicle to the Sacred Valley of the Incas to the starting point of the hike, in Abra Málaga (4,350 meters above sea level), which is the highest place on the hike. . There we will ride our bikes and start downhill for approximately 4 hours towards the small town of Santa Maria. On the route, you can see an Inca site, cloud forest birds, medicinal plants, butterflies, snakes and tropical fruits. We can also visit local families to learn about their daily routine. When we are in Santa María, we stay at a family hostel where we can shower. After dinner, we will spend the night there.
DAY 2: MANDOR - SANTA TERESA - HIKING
We continue our trip early in the morning after breakfast, we will continue progressively until we reach a restaurant where we will have lunch. Then we can relax in hammocks admiring the coca plantations. Later, we continue the trekking and then reach an authentic Inca trail: "Qhapaq Ñan". The trail winds around steep hillsides for about half a mile.
Please note that this part of the hike is not for people who suffer from vertigo. Later, we descend to the famous hot springs of Cocalmayo and cool off in this healing water. After that, we walked to Santa Teresa, a city located on the Santa Teresa River. There, we settled into another family hostel. (Optional hot springs have an additional cost.
DAY 3: SANTA TERESA - HYDROELECTRIC - AGUAS CALIENTES - HIKE
Fly through the treetops on a two-hour morning excursion to the highest area in South America and Peru's first zip line. Travel over 2,500 meters of cables, with the longest route covering 400 meters and the highest covering 150 meters. Later, we descend into bamboo forests and a cloud forest with increasingly thick vegetation and tall trees offering excellent bird watching opportunities. In the afternoon, we arrive at the Hidroeléctrica train station (a hydroelectric plant) and there we begin to follow the trails that take us to the city of Aguas Calientes. We spent the last night in a more comfortable hostel there with private rooms and bathrooms that offer us a hot shower.
DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
We will take one of the first buses (05:30 am) to Machu Picchu (25 minute trip) to appreciate the magnificent city in the morning light when the fog dissipates. Your guide will give you a walking tour (approximately 2 and a half hours) and after this you can explore the mysterious city on your own. If you still have energy, you can also climb Huayna Picchu peak (subject to availability, to be booked in advance at an additional cost). Return to Aguas Calientes by bus at the end of the guided tour. If time permits, visit the local market next to the train station and shop until the train whistle blows, signaling your return to Ollantaytambo. From Ollantaytambo our transportation will be waiting for you to return to the city of Cusco.
